Important public event - April 13th

As a part of European Sustainable Energy Week, there will be a presentation to the public and interested stakeholders about the outcomes of the EquiMar projects. Top ranking European researchers in the field of ocean energy will present the protocols for equitable testing of ocean energy converters. 

This event will take place in the afternoon (1400 to 1730 hrs) of the 13th April on the premises of the Basque Delegation in Brussels, located at Rue des Deux Eglises, 27 in Brussels. The event will be entitled "Equitable Evaluation of Ocean Energy Converters: Protocols from the EquiMar project", and aim to raise awareness of the public about the protocols and the results of the project.

Dates for your diary - October 2009

After their successful presentation at EWTEC in Uppsala in September, representatives of Wave Energy Centre will  be on stage again at the InWaterTec conference , that is going to be held in Kiel, Germany in the beginning of October (6th to 8th).
Water Energy Centre, who are Equimar partners, will be presenting a paper; “Review and discussion of common environmental legislation for ocean energy schemes”. This paper is based on the results and first deliverable of Work Package 6 (D6.1.1) entitled   “Existing legislation, perspectives and evolution of other similar activities".

Upcoming events

WavEC will present a paper on “Discussion of common environmental legislation baselines for ocean energy schemes” based on the results for WP6 first deliverable (D6.1.1 “Existing legislation, perspectives and evolution of other similar activities”)

This will take place on 7th to 10th September 2009 at the EWTEC Conference in Uppsala Sweden.

The Bilbao Podcasts

As a part of the public information and education aspect of the Equimar project, a number of the partners discussed topical issues at the Bilbao meeting. Here, Andre Moura of WavEC and Jean-Francois Dhedin talk to Lesley Riddoch of Feisty about the current challenges facing marine energy today. Naturally enough, the issues are both environmental and economic concerns as the Equimar project works towards establishing its protocols.

Andre Croft of the Wave Energy Centre Portugal talks about how to measure impact of turbines on sea mammals. And he also talks about the survey about public knowledge of the coastal area where turbines are off the coast in Portugal.

Jean–Francois Dhedin EDF France says 75 energy devices are on display in the US. Question is which ones really work? How do investors like EDF decide? And he discusses developers fear of revealing problems.

Public interest and awareness growing as the Bilbao seminar approaches..and new demos

There have been several news articles about the forthcoming EquiMar seminar in Bilbao. Interest has been growing as the global energy issues feature in the G20 talks. You can read the press stories in Spanish here.

There have also been some exciting new developments with new devices being demonstrated at Olympia UK earlier this month.

A New Public Equimar Event Announced - Bilbao April 3

Equimar is organising an Open Seminar on April 3 2009;with the theme;“Towards the Harmonisation of Ocean Energy Development”. In it, the advantages of harmonisation will be discussed, and the up-to-date available information will be presented. This will be dealt with from the perspectives of different aspects in the implementation of ocean energy projects, such as the assessment of physical environment, concept appraisal, sea trials, environmental and economic assessment.
