Equimar partners talk about the importance of protocols. An increasing number of video clips are and will be available to explain details of the Equimar project at the Equimar channel on YouTube.
As a part of the public information and education aspect of the Equimar project, a number of the partners discussed topical issues at the Bilbao meeting. Here, Andre Moura of WavEC and Jean-Francois Dhedin talk to Lesley Riddoch of Feisty about the current challenges facing marine energy today. Naturally enough, the issues are both environmental and economic concerns as the Equimar project works towards establishing its protocols.
Andre Croft of the Wave Energy Centre Portugal talks about how to measure impact of turbines on sea mammals. And he also talks about the survey about public knowledge of the coastal area where turbines are off the coast in Portugal.
Jean–Francois Dhedin EDF France says 75 energy devices are on display in the US. Question is which ones really work? How do investors like EDF decide? And he discusses developers fear of revealing problems.
Lesley Riddoch of EquiMar travelled to Hammerfest in Norway to meet Inger Lise of Hammerfest Strom to discuss the current initiatives. Their discussion is recorded on the EquiMar youTube Channel 'EquiMarVid'.
There have been several news articles about the forthcoming EquiMar seminar in Bilbao. Interest has been growing as the global energy issues feature in the G20 talks. You can read the press stories in Spanish here.
There have also been some exciting new developments with new devices being demonstrated at Olympia UK earlier this month.
Equimar is organising an Open Seminar on April 3 2009;with the theme;“Towards the Harmonisation of Ocean Energy Development”. In it, the advantages of harmonisation will be discussed, and the up-to-date available information will be presented. This will be dealt with from the perspectives of different aspects in the implementation of ocean energy projects, such as the assessment of physical environment, concept appraisal, sea trials, environmental and economic assessment.
