EquiMar Project Deliverables

Throughout the life of the EquiMar project, a number of deliverables will be produced. For ease of access and distribution, the Equimar deliverables will be available in a number of ways. They can be accessed and downloaded from the public pages of the  EquiMar project wiki. Additionally, the deliverables will be made available as downloads in PDF format on this page of the EquiMar website.

What are project deliverables ?

These deliverables are a series of reports which reflect the history and status of the various work packages that make up the EquiMar project. The deliverables reflect the context and collaboration of the partners as they work to establish the appropriate protocols. The deliverables range from information requests through to draft and final reports. The current list of deliverables includes;

Deliverable 1.1 entitled, "Global analysis of pre-normative research activities for marine energy".

This report addresses the current state of marine energy technology by compiling, comparing and analysing existing guidelines, recommendations, protocols and other technical specifications for assessment, modelling, design and analysis of marine energy technologies.

Deliverable 1.2. entitled "Recommendations from other sectors". This report presents a brief critical list of existing international standard and guidelines that have been defined and applied successfully to different business sectors and whose content is believed to be useful for wave and tidal energy technology development.

Deliverable 3.1 entitled "Identification of Limitations of the Current Practices Adopted for Early Stage Tidal Device Assessment". The following report, based on an information request, attempts to identify the limitations of the current practices adopted to undertake initial conceptual appraisal of tidal devices, specifically with regard to: power capture; conversion and power take off; and station keeping.

Deliverable 5.1 entitled "Guidance protocols on choosing of electrical connection configurations" This report has been structured within different sections in order to cover different aspects of the electrical connection of wave and tidal energy farms.

Deliverable 5.2 entitled "Device classification template".This deliverable describes a process to classify wave and tidal energy conversion devices herein referred to as wave and tidal energy devices. The classification recommends a “layered” structure to describe various elements of a wave or tidal energy device.

Deliverable 6.1.1 entitled "Existing legislation, perspectives and evolution of other similar technologies". This report includes a revision of the legal instruments regarding the environmental requirements of the consent procedure for ocean energy schemes in European Union, its Member States and other countries where tidal and wave energy schemes are operating. The perspective of incoming future European legislation (e.g. the role of the Water Framework Directive and the future Marine Directive) in the development of ocean energy schemes is discussed and examples of legislation requirements for other technologies such as wind offshore are presented in order to find similarities.

Deliverable 6.3.1 entitled "Uncertainties regarding environmental impacts". In this report the main uncertainties regarding the potential effects of ocean energy schemes are presented considering the main components of the marine wild life and its interactions with the physico-chemical environmental alteration / disturbance provided by the deployment of ocean energy power devices. Future socio-economic uncertainties are also discussed considering the experiences of other offshore technologies.

Deliverable 7.1 entitled "Summary of Attributes of Cost Models used by different Stakeholders".This deliverable describes an evaluation of existing cost methodologies.

Deliverable 7.2.1 entitled "Procedures for Economic Evaluation". This deliverable examines the key considerations in assessing the economics of marine energy technologies. It briefly examines existing practices and criticisms of them, in particular, the need to better capture the uncertainties and risks associated with the technologies themselves and other factors. It explores the key capital and operational costs as well as the revenue earned by schemes and identifies where the uncertainties lie. It sets out a largely generic procedure to economically evaluate marine energy technologies and how associated uncertainties may be handled.
